The Arabic Theater Company is currently the only U.S.-based theater group exclusively focused on Arab voices in both the Arabic and English language. While other cultural groups exist, few (if any) offer live theatrical performances by and for both Arabic and English-speaking communities.
About the Founder
Islam Balbaa
Islam Balbaa is an award-winning actor, director, and producer with over 18 years of experience in the performing arts. Originally from Egypt and now based in North America, Islam founded The Arabic Theater Company to amplify Arab voices through powerful storytelling in both Arabic and English. Under his leadership, the company has produced sold-out shows across, organized fundraisers, talent showcases, and improv nights, and become a unique platform for Arab artists in the diaspora. Islam's work has been featured in international film festivals and on major television networks, including a recurring role in Canada's #1 TV show Transplant. A passionate advocate for equity in the arts, Islam also serves on the City of Ottawa’s Equity and Inclusion Committee and has twice judged grants for emerging artists.
Through his vision, The Arabic Theater Company continues to create space for authentic, nuanced representations of Arab culture on stage and screen.
